Tasukiji Top 5 recommending SUSHI restaurants

Tsukiji is now a well-known sight seeing place in Tokyo for all visitors.
It is a huge seafood market, that is the biggest fish market in the world. You will be surprised that there are so many seafood, gathered and distributed to all over the Japan and also to the world.

The restaurants were originally developed for people who were working in the market. The typical example is Yoshinoya, the popular beef bowl fast food restaurant in Japan. The first-open shop of Yoshinoya started from Tsukiji. The fast food type of restaurant, quick, cheap and taste good, was the best for workers and buyers there at first. However, the market got popular, there are more restaurants for visitors of Tsukiji.

TYpical selling points restaurants in Tsukiji are common as follows,

- Famous restaurant owners come and visit the restaurant after their shopping
- Fresh and reasonable seafood because we are in Tsukiji
- Tsukiji is comepetitive, so are we

There are about 40 restaurants in Tsukiji and I would like to recommend 5 SUSHI restaurants there. I have found the latest and reliable ranking magazine, Otona no Shumatsu, which means weekend guides for adults, introducing all 12 SUSHI restaurant in Tsukiji. They did their own primary research and ranked the 12 SUSHI restaurants in Tsukiji. (Published in Dec 2011)

The top 5 Sushi Restaurant in Tsukiji,

1.  Ryu Sushi, Anago Don is excellent and all seafood is very fresh.
2.  Sushi Dai, Very popular because of the price, taste and services. Worth queuing.
3.  Daiwa Sushi, Also very popular. Fresh, of-course, and reasonable
4.  Sushi Tokoro Okame, Season's Omakase set, 3600yen. Worth having
5.  Iwasa Sushi, Amazing Uni Don. Big topping uni.

Even for Japanese visitors, it is hard to choose today's SUSHI lunch in Tsukiji, because we do not know the best in price, taste and services. This list would be also very helpful to choose it even for Japanese visitors. According to their research, the range for lunch would be from 1000yen to 5000yen, that is relatively reasonable for SUSHI lunch in Japan. Most of the Sushi restaurants have a set menu, so if you are not sure which to order, you should not hesitate starting from the set menu.

Please note that some Sushi restaurants are so busy. There are queues to go to the popular ones, so please get prepared when you go to the popular ones.

Tempura, 'Must Have' food in Japan

Everybody says 'Tempura is one of Japanese foods you must have.' Yes, it is. When you visit Japan, you must visit tempura restaurants.

I would like to share with you about my family's case. Our family from UK go to Tempura restaurant every time when they visit, particularly my mother in low loves Tempura.

She has been to Japan more than 10 times and her recent one was this year. She chooses the best time in Japan, Spring, even last year after the earthquake.
Japan has four beautiful seasons, but especially it is fabulous in Spring, because of good mild weather, Easter holiday for kids and cherry blossom parties.

She and her husband stayed for a month this time and visited a lot of places in Japan.
There are many things they love in Japan, but I am sure food is one of them. They liked a lot of Japanese cuisines such as Sushi, Sashimi, Shabu-shabu and Japanese steaks.
One of the cuisines that they must eat once for a stay is Tempura. It is no exception this time.

However, because we were so busy this time, we had not been to Tempura yet, so this was two days before their last day in Tokyo.
I did a quick search on the web, I found Tenmatsu in Shibuya.

We wanted to go to close to our place and the restaurant with counter seats.
Tempura restaurants are in famous department stores as tenants, but we prefered a restaurant on the road.

Tenmatsu's recommendation on the web was good.

Close to Shibuya
Not so expensive
Long history
Fresh Food
Good tastes

So we chose this restaurant.

During the Golden Week, we could have seats without booking. We chose counter seats for 4 of us.
I always recommend to keep a seat in the counter when you go to Japanese restaurants. It can be bit challenging for Sushi, but it is easier for Tempura.

It looks Tempura chef makes deep fried Tempura so easily, however this requires a lot of skills and experience. So it is always fun to see of the process of cooking as well as skills. If you have any comments or questions, please do, you would enjoy your visit more. The language can be bit difficult, but worth trying when it is not busy. Tempura is a typical example of the open kitchen here in Japan.

There was an only one chef and he was focusing quietly and seriously to serve lunch for use. But we asked about displayed vegetables.

There was a bunch of fresh vegetables in front of him, this show their pride for today's foods. Indeed there are a lot of fresh, Spring vegetables there. They looked great and he told me the names of each vegetables. There are Fukinoto, Kogomi, Zenmai and Renkon.

The lunch set did not contain those Spring vegitables unfortunately, I guessed they would go to dinner set. So it would be great here in Tenmatsu to enjoy the dinner.

I had Lunch tendon, Tempura bowl, there in the picture of the top. The Tendon had 2 shrinps, that I liked and some more vegitables. It tasted very good!!

If you are Tempura bigginner, I recommend starting from lunch set at the long-running Tenpura restaurants, such as Tenmatsu.
